Passage to India is the story of a doomed romance between a high status British woman, Adela Quested (Judy Davis) and an Indian doctor, Aziz Ahmed (Victor Banerjee). Adela fearing that she will be outcast for her involvement with an Indian, who the British see as a lower class of people, accuses Aziz of brutally raping her. This causes severe tensions between each side, the Indians and the British, and leads to a great conflict between the two. Aziz is captured by the British, convicted of raping Adela and punished severely; infuriating the Indian uprising and moving the two sides towards all out war. |
