Omar (Gordon Warnecke), who is Pakistani, and Johnny (Daniel Day Lewis), who is British, live in England and end up running a business together while also having a deeper personal relationship with each other. Omar is torn between trying to be a modern Englishman and a traditional Pakistani, but he cannot speak his family’s native language, and he can’t be loyal to them all the time. Omar’s family wants him to marry a woman named Tania N. Hussein (Rita Wolf), but his heart is already taken. Omar and Johnny also have to contend with racism, homophobia, cultural clashes, snobbery, and problems with their laundry business.
