George (Bob Hoskins) is a small time London crook who has just gotten out of a stretch in prison, having taken the rap for his boss Mortwell (Michael Caine.) As a form of payment for maintaining his silence, he assigns George to be the chauffeur and bodyguard of high class prostitute Simone (Cathy Tyson). Despite early differences with the rich clientele she caters to, soon George finds himself enmeshed in a web of intrigue as Simone draws him into her world and into a plot she has been working on.
