Private investigator Philip Marlowe (Elliot Gould) grees to give his friend Terry Lennox (Jim Bouton) a lift to Tijuana. Later Marlowe learns from police that Lennox is accused of murdering his wife and that his friend committed suicide in Mexico. Marlowe is then hired by Eileen Wade (Nina Pallandt), to find her alcoholic husband. As he continues his investigations, Marlowe learns that the Wades are the key to understanding his friends actions.
