Withnail and I (1986) is a semi-autobiographical movie telling the story of Bruce Robinson, the "I" in the title. Withnail (Richard Grant) and the otherwise unnamed I (Paul McGann) are unemployed actors living together in London in the 1960's. Withnail is a barely-sane alcoholic, who is barely kept functional by his somewhat more stable but anxiety ridden roommate. Withnail does as he pleases, and his roommate stumbles along after him, trying to keep their lives together. As Withnail spirals further and further down, I must decide whether to break with his friend and pursue his career, or continue to take care of Withnail. One of the funniest films ever made.
