Follows the male inmates of an American prison, many of whom have been jailed for the worst crimes, for many months as they prepare and rehearse a production of The Tempest. As the performers explore Shakespeare's characters, they reveal and discover their own feelings and backgrounds. They give an emotional and professional final performance, the high of their acting achievements tempered by the realities of prison life and the mirage of parole.
