"Coffee and Cigarettes" is not so much a movie as a collection of short vignettes all revolving around people sharing coffee and cigarettes. The film is black and white and the vignettes are often humorous, but sometimes sobering. Although the vignettes are not connected, there is recurring jokes, such as the fact that coffee and cigarettes do not make a good lunch, and the opening scene has an awkward, stuttering, feel to it, while the final scene offers an atmosphere of closure. Many famous actors appear in cameos, some as themselves, such as Iggy (Iggy Pop), and some as themselves and other characters, such as Cate (Cate Blanchett) and Shelly (Cate Blanchett), and some in completely different roles, such as Waiter (Steve Buscemi).
