19 Films x 19 Directors
The ambitious 'Beckett on Film' project brought together 19 different directors, including Anthony Minghella, David Mamet and Damien Hirst, for the filming of all 19 plays by Irish playwright Samuel Beckett. Each director chose the play they wished to direct, and the cast they wished to work with. The rules were simple: the directors were not allowed to change a word of Beckett's original text, and must adhere strictly to the stage directions given in the original works. The result is an impressive body of work involving some of the world's leading actors and directors. The 19 plays are: 'Act Without Words 1', 'Act Without Words 2', 'Breath', 'Catastrophe', 'Come And Go', 'Endgame', 'Footfalls', 'Happy Days', 'Krapp's Last Tape', 'Not I', 'Ohio Impromptu', 'A Piece of Monologue', 'Play', 'Rockaby', 'Rough For Theatre 1', 'Rough For Theatre 2', 'That Time', 'Waiting for Godot' and 'What Where'.
