While working in England, private investigator Philip Marlowe (Robert Mitchum) is asked by the aging General Sternwood (James Stewart) to look into an attempt to blackmail his daughter Charlotte (Sarah Miles). When the investigation turns to Rusty Reagan (David Savile), the missing husband of Sternwood's other daughter Camilla (Candy Clark), things become increasingly dangerous for both Marlowe and Charlotte as gangsters and their hit men become involved. |
